K+S Aktiengesellschaft

biography

Norbert Steiner, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of K+S Aktiengesellschaft in Kasselspoke about the importance of local resources and how it can be ensured that they will continue to be sufficiently available and efficiently extracted in the future in his presentation "Domestic raw materials: security of supply, resource efficiency in production and product value creation".

Norbert Steiner joined the fertilizer specialist K+S (potash and salt) in 1993 after previously working at BASF, where he was initially Head of Legal, Tax and Insurance. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer, whereupon he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors in 2006 and finally took over as Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of K+S Aktiengesellschaft in July 2007. Norbert Steiner is also a member of the Supervisory Board of E.ON Mitte AG, also based in Kassel. As the only commodity stock in the German share index, K+S is today regarded as the world's leading supplier of products containing potash and magnesium for agricultural and industrial applications, but also for private consumers. At the end of the 2010 financial year, the K+S Group employed more than 15,000 people and generated revenues of around â'¬ 5.0 billion.

In his contribution to the 19th Munich Management Colloquium, Norbert Steiner will explain how important domestic raw materials are and how they can be extracted as efficiently as possible in the future. The issue of security of supply plays a key role here, as the aim is to ensure that no bottlenecks arise in the future, despite the increasing scarcity of resources. In this context, the added value of locally sourced resources will therefore be discussed and the importance of efficient production and extraction will be emphasized. The creation of efficient structures along the supply chain is a key success factor in achieving these goals. Current case studies from K+S Aktiengesellschaft are intended to illustrate this.
