Dr. Lutz Bertling, President & CEO of the Eurocopter Group, spoke in his presentation on "Save Improve Invest - Staying ahead with innovation, especially in times of crisis" about ways to master the current economic challenges through innovation and ensure sustainable, long-term corporate development.
Dr. Lutz Bertling, born in 1962, is President and CEO of the Eurocopter Group and a member of the EADS Executive Committee. Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. Bertling was Executive Vice President Governmental Helicopters of the Eurocopter Group since 2003 and additionally became CEO of Eurocopter Deutschland GmbH in April 2006. Dr. Bertling began his career in 1988 as a research assistant at the Institute for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (IWF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He became Head of the Production Systems Department there in 1991. From 1993 to 1999, Dr. Bertling held various management positions at Adtranz, DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems (Deutschland) GmbH, most recently as Vice President System Design and Production Unit Carbody Germany. In 1999, he joined the Military Aircraft Business Unit of EADS predecessor company DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (Dasa) as Vice President Augsburg Plant and Aerostructure Programs. Dr. Bertling is Chairman or member of various Boards of Directors in Australia, Germany, Spain and the USA as well as the BDLI Executive Committee. He was awarded the Chevalier de lOrdre National de la Légion d'Honneur of the République Française in 2007. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, London, since June 2009.
In his contribution to the 17th Munich Management Colloquium, Dr. Lutz Bertling will discuss the importance of innovation in the context of comprehensive innovation management in companies. The current economic conditions are causing savings that need to be targeted without impairing the company's ability to innovate. Innovation management has the task of identifying opportunities for improvement and initiating sustainable investments. The resulting lead in know-how is an advantage for the company, particularly in times of crisis, and secures a leading position in the market, especially in times of crisis.
