The Volkswagen Group, based in Wolfsburg, is one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers and the largest car producer in Europe. In 2004, the Group succeeded in increasing deliveries of vehicles to customers to 5.079 million in a difficult economic environment, corresponding to a global passenger car market share of 11.5 percent. Group sales increased to EUR 88.9 billion in 2004. Profit after tax amounted to EUR 0.716 billion in the past financial year. The Group has created four areas of responsibility for regional management: The Europe/other markets region, the North America region, the South America/South Africa region and the Asia-Pacific region. The Financial Services and Europcar business segments are managed jointly in the Financial Services division. The Group's aim is to offer attractive, safe and environmentally friendly vehicles that are competitive in an increasingly competitive market and are world leaders in their class.

Mr. Falko Schling joined BMW AG in 1975 after completing his engineering studies (Dipl.-Ing.) and subsequently held various management positions. In 1993, he retired as overall project manager for the mid-range series in research and development. From 1993 to 1998, he was initially a board member of Vorwerk Elektrowerke Stiftung & Co. KG, later as sole managing director of Vorwerk-Elektrowerke GmbH & Co. KG. In 1998, he moved to Linde AG, where he was a member of the Executive Board with responsibility for central technical tasks and materials handling and refrigeration technology until 2001. Since October 1, 2001, Mr. Falko Schling has been Head of Group Quality Assurance at Volkswagen AG.
