Dr. Philipp Gerbert

Philipp Gerbert is the General Managing Director of the TUM Venture Labs, a not-for-profit network of 11 DeepTech and Life Sciences Labs providing domain-specific and leading-edge methodological support for early-stage entrepreneurs and ventures. The TUM Venture Labs are a joint venture of the Technical University of Munich, by now the top-ranked university in the EU, and of UnternehmerTUM, Europe’s largest entrepreneurship center.
Previously, Philipp worked for 15 years as a Senior Partner at BCG, where he focused on energy technology and industrial goods, on climate action, on digital strategy, and on artificial intelligence and quantum computing in business. Together with the German Industry Association and in close collaboration with the entire German industry he has launched ‘Klimapfade für Deutschland’, the most comprehensive blueprint on how to fully decarbonize an industrialized country in an economically optimized way. He also co-founded the BCG Center for Climate Action.
Philipp is also a board member of appliedAI and has for many years led BCG’s collaboration with MIT on AI in business. On Quantum Computing, Philipp is the lead author of a widely referenced report across industries, applications, technologies and algorithms.
By background Philipp is a quantum physicist. He received his Master from the Max-Planck-Institute/University of Munich and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. He also worked as a researcher at UCLA, and later for many years in Silicon Valley with Regis McKenna on technology strategy.
