Mr. Werner Baumann has been Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG since May 1, 2016. After studying economics in Aachen and Cologne, he joined Bayer AG in 1988. In 1991, he joined Bayer Hispania Comercial in Barcelona, Spain, as Controller and became Assistant to the Management Board in 1995. One year later, Baumann moved to the Bayer Corporation in Tarrytown, USA. In July 2002, Baumann returned to Germany and became a member of the Executive Committee and Head of Central Administration & Organization at Bayer HealthCare. In October 2003, he was appointed to the Board of Management of the newly founded subgroup Bayer HealthCare AG, where he also held the position of Labor Director. In addition, as a member of the Board of Management and Labor Director of Bayer Schering Pharma from 2006 to September 2009, he accompanied the integration phase of the company into the former subgroup. On January 1, 2010, Baumann was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Bayer AG. From October 1, 2014 until his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Management, he was responsible for Strategy and Portfolio Management on the Group Board of Management and also for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. From April to the end of December 2015, Baumann was also Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG.
