biography
Prof. Dr. Gunther Friedl is Managing Director of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation and has been Professor of Business Administration at the Technical University of Munich since 2007. He was Dean of the TUM School of Management from 2010 to 2024. He was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and Visiting Professor at the Warsaw School of Economics. During his time as Dean, the TUM School of Management received Triple Crown accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The size of the faculty quadrupled to more than 7,000 students.
Gunther Friedl is the author and co-author of over 120 publications, including twelve textbooks on management accounting, company valuation, strategy and innovation. His current research interests lie in the areas of corporate governance, performance measurement and sustainability as well as valuation. He is particularly interested in the creation of innovation ecosystems.
Gunther Friedl has received several awards for his teaching, including the Best Teaching Award of the TUM Executive MBA. He was honored as "Professor of the Year" in Germany.
He provides research and advisory services to several Global 500 companies in Europe, North America and Asia, including Apple, BMW, Continental, E.ON, Nissan, NVIDIA, SAP and Siemens. He advises European governments on corporate governance, accounting and valuation, and innovation.
His studies are frequently published in media such as Handelsblatt, the Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, ARD and ZDF. He regularly comments on management issues in the media.
