Thorsten Hahn

After obtaining his doctorate in 2001, he began his academic career as a member of staff at the cultural studies research college "Media and Cultural Communication". From 2001 to 2007, he worked there as a research assistant. After his habilitation in 2007, with a teaching license for modern German literature and media studies, he initially took up a position as senior academic advisor. From 2009 to 2012, he held a W3 professorship for Modern German Literature and Media Aesthetics at the FernUniversität in Hagen, where he also took over as Dean of the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences in 2012. He has been a full professor of German philology at the University of Cologne since October 2012.

His research focuses on pop culture as an aesthetic surface, aesthetics and poetics with a focus on literary form coding, media theory, the interfaces between literature and politics and the dynamics of literary communication.
