biography

Robert J. Koehler, Chairman of the Board of Management, SGL Group in Wiesbadenspoke in his presentation about ways and strategies for professional crisis management from the perspective of a global market leader.

After leaving school, Robert J. Koehler initially completed a commercial apprenticeship before studying business administration at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Mr. Koehler began his professional career as a product manager in the organic chemicals division of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt. In 1975, he moved to Hoechst UK Ltd. in Great Britain as Marketing Manager. Five years later, he became Head and Director of the Chemicals Division of Hoechst UK Ltd. From 1983-1986, Robert J. Koehler headed the Industrial Division and became a member of the Management Committee of Hoechst UK Ltd. Subsequently, Mr. Koehler moved to Bogotá in Colombia, South America, as Managing Director of Hoechst Colombiana S.A. until 1989. At the end of his time with the Hoechst Group, Mr. Koehler was Head of Corporate Planning at Hoechst AG in Frankfurt am Main.

Robert J. Koehler has been Chairman of the Board of Management of SGL Carbon SE in Wiesbaden since 1992. In 2008, SGL Carbon SE employed 6500 people and generated sales of 1611 million euros. Mr. Koehler is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Benteler AG and a member of the Supervisory Boards of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, Lanxess AG, Demag Cranes AG and Klöckner & Co SE.

In his contribution to the 17th Munich Management Colloquium, Mr. Koehler will present and discuss the options available to a company in the carbon industry in the course of crisis management. His own experiences and concepts will serve to illustrate a successful crisis strategy.
