biography

Johannes Zeiher is Professor for Synthetic Quantum Matter at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and Group Leader of the Quantum Matter Interfaces Group at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. His research focus is on quantum simulation and quantum computing with neutral atoms. In addition to this, Zeiher is Co-Founder and Principal Scientist of planqc, the company developing Germany’s first quantum computer based on neutral atoms.

After earning his PhD in Physics from LMU Munich, Zeiher gained international research experience, including as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2020, he has led his own research group at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics.

With planqc, he builds bridges between cutting-edge research and industrial application to advance the development of powerful quantum computers in Europe. His vision: quantum computers “Made in Europe” that enable scientific breakthroughs and deliver concrete solutions for industry and society.
