biography
Prof. Henkel (*1965) is Professor of Technology and Innovation Management. His research focuses on patent management, standards, technology acquisitions, digitalization and open and user innovation. His work has been published in Academy of Management Discoveries, Harvard Business Review, Rand Journal of Economics, Research Policy and Strategic Management Journal, among others. He is Associate Editor of Academy of Management Discoveries and on the Editorial Review Board of Industrial and Corporate Change, Innovation: Organization & Management and Research Policy. He regularly advises companies in the ICT industry, in particular on patent disputes in the context of standards.
Prof. Henkel studied physics at the University of Bonn, obtained his doctorate in economics at the University of Mannheim and habilitated in business administration at the LMU. After completing his doctorate, he worked for two years at the management consultancy Bain & Company. He was a visiting scholar at University College London, MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard Business School and Singapore Management University. He was appointed to the TUM in 2004.
