Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Mario Trapp is Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS. He received his doctorate with distinction from TU Kaiserslautern in 2005, where he also habilitated in 2016. In 2005, he moved to Fraunhofer IESE, where he was initially responsible for the area of safety-critical software as head of department before heading the "Embedded Systems" department from 2009 to 2017. On January 1, 2018, he was provisionally appointed Managing Director of Fraunhofer ESK (now Fraunhofer IKS) in Munich, a position he has held regularly since May 1, 2019.

Mario Trapp has also been a full professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since June 1, 2022. He holds the Chair of Engineering Resilient Cognitive Systems at the School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT). He previously taught as an adjunct professor at the Department of Computer Science at TU Kaiserslautern.

For many years, Mario Trapp has been contributing his expertise in the development of innovative embedded systems as part of successful partner projects, both with leading international corporations and with small and medium-sized companies. His current personal research focus is on the safety assurance and resilience of cognitive systems, which form the technological basis of many future scenarios such as Industry 4.0 or automated driving.

Mario Trapp is the author of numerous international scientific publications. He is also a member of the Bavarian AI Council of the Bavarian State Government and the AI - Data Science expert committee of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.
