Siemens AG is a global leader in electronics and electrical engineering. Founded over 150 years ago, the company supports its customers in around 190 countries with innovative technologies and comprehensive know-how in solving their business and technical tasks.

The medical technology activities of Siemens AG are combined in the Siemens Medical Solutions Group. Siemens Medical Solutions (Med) is one of the world's largest providers in the healthcare sector. It covers the entire spectrum from therapy devices for treatment and imaging systems for diagnosis to IT solutions that optimize workflows in clinics and practices and lead to greater efficiency. Med employs around 33,000 people in 120 countries around the world, including around 8,500 in Germany. Its headquarters and head office in Germany are in Erlangen. In the 2005 financial year, Med achieved sales of â'¬ 7.6 billion and incoming orders of â'¬ 8.6 billion. The divisional result amounted to â'¬ 1 billion. Expenditure on research and development amounted to â'¬ 728 million. 75 % of the products were less than 3 years old and, according to the company, 5 patents were registered per working day.

Dr. Hermann Requardt (51) is currently a member of the Medical Solutions Group Executive Committee and will succeed Prof. Dr. Claus Weyrich on the Corporate Executive Committee of Siemens AG in October. After completing his doctorate in physics at the German Aerospace Research and Testing Institute, he joined Siemens AG's Medical Technology Group in 1984. For more than ten years, he headed important research and development projects in the field of medical imaging systems, making a significant contribution to Siemens AG's recognized leading position in the field of medical technology. From 1995, he was responsible for the Magnetic Resonance Business Line and joined the Divisional Board of Medical Solutions at the beginning of 2001.

In his contribution to the 14th Munich Management Colloquium, Dr. Hermann Requardt will examine the question of how the value creation of internationally operating companies should be structured in order to achieve sustainable value contributions and ensure their continued existence, with particular consideration of the prevailing developments in the medical technology sector.
