biography

Gerhard Kramer is Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He received a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada in 1991 and an M.Sc. in 1992. In 1998, he was awarded a Dr. sc. techn. (Doctor of Technical Sciences) by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. From 1998 to 2000, Gerhard Kramer worked at Endora Tech AG, Basel, as a communications engineer. From 2000 to 2008 he was a Member of Technical Staff at the Math Center, Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent in Murray Hill/New Jersey. From 2009 to 2010, he was Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA. He was appointed Alexander von Humboldt Professor and Full Professor of Communications Engineering at TUM in 2010.

His research focuses on information theory and communication theory with applications in both wireless and wired networks over copper and fiber optics.
