Mr. Prof. Dieter Kempf was born in Munich in January 1953.

After studying business administration in Munich from 1973 to 1978, he worked at Arthur & Young, now Ernst & Young, from 1978 to 1991, becoming a partner (managing director and co-partner) in 1989.

He then joined DATEV eG in Nuremberg in 1991 as a member of the Executive Board, responsible for product and software development. From 1992, he was Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, and from 1996 until March 2016, Chairman of the Management Board. Under Mr. Kempf, Datev has developed from a nationwide organization to one of the largest IT service providers in Europe.

Dieter Kempf was President of the BDI member association Bitkom (German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media) from 2011 to 2015. During this time, he was also Vice President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

On January 1, 2017, Dieter Kempf was unanimously elected President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

Mr. Kempf is a member of various supervisory and advisory boards. He has been an honorary professor at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg since 2005.
