Martina Merz was born in 1963 and studied mechanical engineering with a focus on production technology at the DHBW Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart.
Martina Merz began her professional career in 1985 in various management positions at Robert Bosch GmbH. In 2002, she moved to Brose Fahrzeugteile GmbH & Co. KG, before returning to Bosch in 2005.
From 2012, Martina Merz worked as Chief Executive Officer for Chassis Brakes International. From 2015 to 2019, she worked as an independent management consultant and was a member of the supervisory boards of Lufthansa AG, SAF-Holland, Imerys and Volvo AB.
In February 2019, Martina Merz was elected Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of thyssenkrupp AG. She has been Chairwoman of the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp AG since October 2019.
In this role, Martina Merz is responsible for sustainability and for the Corporate Center Portfolio Development & Strategy (Communications, Internal Auditing, Mergers & Acquisitions, Transformation & Portfolio Development). She is also responsible for the Greater China region. The Automotive Technology and Multi Tracks business segments report directly to Martina Merz.
