Lord Mayor Büchelmeierborn on January 4, 1948 in Schwäbisch Hall, is married and the father of two children. His professional career included studying Catholic theology in Tübingen and working as a senior teacher in Markdorf and at Karl-Maybach Gymnasium Friedrichshafen before he was elected Mayor of the city of Friedrichshafen on March 11, 2001. This position also includes the chairmanship of the Zeppelin Foundation as well as supervisory board mandates in its subsidiaries and thus, with ZF Friedrichshafen AG, the control of one of the 100 companies with the highest turnover in the Federal Republic of Germany (approx. EUR 10 billion turnover in 2005).

The Zeppelin Foundation was founded on September 8, 1908 by Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin and became the property of the city of Friedrichshafen after the Second World War. The Zeppelin Foundation is a shareholder and owner of the "foundation company" ZF Friedrichshafen AG and holds a stake in Zeppelin GmbH Friedrichshafen/ Garching via Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH.
