biography
Joachim Hunold studied law after graduating from high school in 1970. Hunold began his professional career in 1978 at the handling company Braathens Air Transport at Düsseldorf Airport. From 1982 to 1990, Hunold worked for the LTU Group, most recently as Sales and Marketing Director. In April 1991, Joachim Hunold founded "Air Berlin GmbH & Co. Luftverkehrs KG" and thus took over the American "Air Berlin Inc." Since then, Hunold has managed the company. Initially as Managing Partner, and since the creation of the new holding structure with effect from January 1, 2006 as Director of Air Berlin PLC in the function of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Under his leadership, Air Berlin developed from a small company with two aircraft and 150 employees into the second largest German airline with 128 aircraft and more than 8,000 employees today.
