Mr. Heinz Hermann Thiele, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG, spoke on the topic "Cultural aspects of post-merger integration".
The Knorr-Bremse Group is the world's leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles. As a technological pacemaker, the company has been driving the development, production, sales and service of modern braking systems for over 100 years. Other product areas include systems for rail vehicles, intelligent boarding systems, air conditioning systems, energy supply systems, control components and windshield wipers, platform screen doors, friction materials and driver assistance systems. Knorr-Bremse also offers driving simulators and e-learning systems for optimum training of train crews. In addition to the complete braking system including driver assistance systems, the Commercial Vehicle Systems division offers torsional vibration dampers and powertrain solutions as well as transmission control systems to improve efficiency and save fuel.
Mr. Heinz Hermann Thiele studied law in Munich and joined Knorr-Bremse in 1969 as a legal clerk in the patent department. After various activities in this area, he moved from the legal and patent department to the commercial vehicle segment of Knorr-Bremse, which he headed as division manager from 1975. In 1979, he became Managing Director of Sales and, from September 1985, CEO of the entire Group. In December of the same year, Mr. Thiele acquired a majority stake in the Knorr-Bremse Group. He has been Chairman of the company's Supervisory Board since April 2007.
