Hans Ulrich Holdenried

Chairman of the Management Board
Hewlett-Packard GmbH, Böblingen

biography

In his presentation, Mr. Hans Ulrich Holdenried will talk about "Restructuring to increase competitiveness - from vision to implementation".

Hewlett-Packard offers technology solutions that can be divided into the following three business areas:

  1. Imaging and Printing Group (IPG)
The Imaging and Printing Group is responsible for the development and delivery of products and solutions relating to printing and image processing.
  2. Personal Systems Group (PSG)
Providing simple, reliable and cost-effective PC solutions and devices for private and business use.
  3. Technology Solutions Group (TSG)
Development and delivery of IT solutions (technology and services) for larger companies (enterprise) and public clients.

Annual investment in research and development for new products, solutions and technologies amounts to around 3.5 billion US dollars. With over 150,000 employees in more than 170 countries, the company as a whole achieved global sales of 86.7 billion US dollars in the 2005 financial year. The need to produce hardware quickly, flexibly and cost-effectively through international production sites poses particular challenges for the design of the value chain. Globalization is well advanced in the IT sector. Ever faster data connections are leading to the worldwide networking of production and markets. The question therefore arises as to where the value-added parts of the products and services are created in order to achieve maximum added value for the company. The IT sector has been characterized by the outsourcing of production and programming capacities for several years now. In the service sector, too, the question of where and by whom value is created has become an important element of corporate decision-making.

Mr. Hans Ulrich Holdenriedborn on January 8, 1951 in Göppingen, began his career as a financial analyst at Hewlett Packard in 1976 after graduating with a degree in business administration.
