biography
Dr. Klaus Richter has been Spokesman of the Executive Board of the Diehl Group since August 2021. The Diehl Group is a diversified family-owned company that was founded in 1902. Today, it consists of five subgroups that are represented in the aviation (Aviation), defense (Defence), metal and mobility (Metal), controls and connectivity (Controls) and energy measurement and solutions (Metering) sectors.
From 2007 to 2019 he was part of the Airbus Group in various positions. Most recently as Chief Procurement Officer for Airbus Group & Airbus, as well as a member of the Airbus Executive Committee. In addition, Klaus Richter was Chairman of the Management Board of Airbus in Germany and of the Supervisory Board of the Premium AEROTEC Group. His responsibilities covered all Airbus purchasing and procurement activities, developing strong partnerships with suppliers and ensuring on-time, on-cost and on-quality delivery of all purchased goods. Furthermore, Klaus Richter was in charge of General Procurement at Airbus Group. In addition, he coordinated strategic procurement topics as well as the development and application of procurement processes and tools in all divisions of the Group.
Before joining Airbus Group, Klaus Richter was Senior Vice President Materials Purchasing for BMW in Munich. In this role, he was responsible for the management of supplier relationships for direct materials and work equipment throughout the company. Klaus Richter began his career in 1993 at McKinsey&Company as a management consultant for the automotive, electronics and aerospace business and product development. He held this position until 2003. He then moved to BMW as Head of Procurement Strategy for Production Materials. Klaus Richter received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Munich in 1991. After completing his doctorate, he received a Humboldt Fellowship and spent two years as a researcher and teacher at the University of California at Berkeley. Klaus Richter was born in Munich on September 29, 1964. He is married and has two children.
