biography
Siemens AG is a global leader in electronics and electrical engineering and can look back on a history of over 150 years. With over 434,000 employees, Siemens is now represented in 190 countries. Annual sales in fiscal 2004 amounted to EUR 75.2 billion. With over EUR 5 billion invested in research and development, including over 50 % in Germany, Siemens AG was at the forefront of all electronics and electrical engineering companies. Siemens AG concentrates primarily on trend-setting technologies and cross-sectional technologies that are important for several business areas (new materials, sensor technology).

Dr. Klaus Kleinfeld joined the Siemens Group as a sales representative in 1987 after completing his studies in business administration with a subsequent doctorate and experience at a management consultancy and as a product manager in the pharmaceuticals sector. After founding the internal management consultancy Siemens Management Consulting (SMC) in 1996, among other things to improve innovation processes at Siemens AG, and other management functions in the Siemens Group, Dr. Kleinfeld was appointed CIO of the Siemens subsidiary in the USA in 2001. Dr. Klaus Kleinfeld has been Chairman of the Managing Board of Siemens AG since January 27, 2005.

In addition to his function as Chairman of the Management Board of Siemens AG, Dr. Klaus Kleinfeld is a member of the Supervisory Board of Alcoa Inc., Bayer AG and Citigroup Inc. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Opera in New York and of the International Economic Council of the World Economic Forum.
