biography

Dr. Johannes Eckert OSB, Abbot of St. Boniface Abbey in Munich and Andechs, discusses with experts and top executives as part of the panel discussion.

Dr. Johannes Eckert OSB, born in Mosbach in 1969, studied Catholic theology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich at the beginning of the 1990s, specializing in religious education and social ethics. In 1993, he joined the Benedictine Abbey of St. Boniface in Munich and Andechs. In Andechs, he has accompanied the retreats for managers since 1995 and has also made a name for himself as a consultant in the field of ethical management for numerous companies. Dr. Johannes Eckert OSB made his perpetual profession, i.e. the public profession of vows with which a member of the order binds himself to his community forever, in 1998.

His successfully completed dissertation on the topic "Serving instead of ruling. Corporate Culture and Religious Spirituality: Encounters - Challenges - Suggestions" was written in collaboration with BMW AG in 2000. In the same year, Dr. Johannes Eckert OSB was ordained a priest and was pastor of the parishes of Erling-Andechs and Machtlfing until his ordination in 2003 as the 8th Abbot of St. Boniface in Munich and 33rd Abbot in Andechs.

Today, he sees his primary task as consolidating the monastic community internally. At the same time, however, he also takes the time to maintain an open and trusting dialog across religious boundaries with all social groups that have a relationship with the monasteries in Munich and Andechs. He has already demonstrated his prudent, entrepreneurial approach as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of a public limited company. In addition, Dr. Johannes Eckert OSB, together with his confreres, is pursuing the sustainable growth of business operations at Andechs Monastery.
