Dr. Joachim Wenning

Dr. oec. publ. Joachim Wenning was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1965. He studied economics at the University of Munich and, after graduating in 1991, joined Munich Reinsurance Company, where he was responsible for the technical support of life reinsurance clients in Germany as a contract officer until the beginning of 1997. At the same time, Dr. Wenning worked on his dissertation, which he completed in 1995 with a doctorate (Dr. oec. publ.). At the beginning of 1997, he spent two and a half years within the Group at Hamburg-Mannheimer Versicherungs-AG in Hamburg, during which he carried out various strategic projects to realign the sales organization.

After his return from Hamburg, Dr. Wenning headed the "Life Reinsurance Latin America, Southern Europe and Middle East" department from mid-2000 and was responsible for the life reinsurance business in these countries. In May 2005, he was appointed CEO of New Re in Geneva. Among other things, he was responsible for the strategic development of the company by expanding the mandate for Financial Solutions Life & Health and Financial Institutions business.

Dr. Wenning was appointed to the Board of Management of Munich Reinsurance Company in 2009 and was responsible for Life from January 2009 to January 2017. From October 2013 to April 2017, Dr. Wenning was also responsible for the central Human Resources division and was also Labour Director at the same time. He was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board on 27 April 2017. In addition to his current responsibilities, Dr Wenning was responsible for Group Holdings from April 2017 to March 2019. He is currently responsible for Group Strategy and M&A; Group Communications; Group Audit; Economics, Sustainability and Public Affairs; Group Human Resources; Group Executive Affairs and Group Compliance and Legal.
