Dr. Christoph Abels

Post-Doctoral Fellow
University of Potsdam

biography

Dr. Christoph M. Abels holds a doctorate in behavioral science and is a science communicator and strategy consultant at the interface of psychology, public policy and digital transformation. His research focuses on the causes of democratic erosion, the potential of behavioral science to mitigate it, and the societal consequences of global autocratization. He is increasingly investigating how artificial intelligence influences human behavior in the long term and what effects this dynamic has on democratic resilience and social cohesion. His interdisciplinary background gives him a special perspective on how people navigate complex systems and make decisions. Stations in think tanks, strategic communication and science characterize his work, which is always geared towards combining theory and practice. Christoph holds a PhD in Governance and a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Hertie School in Berlin. Since 2022, he has been a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the ERC-funded project PRODEMINFO (Protecting the Democratic Information Space in Europe) at the University of Potsdam.
