In her presentation on "Sustainability in management - key driver for AREVA's development", Anne Lauvergeon will talk about ways and strategies to increase the value of the Areva Group as a company in the nuclear industry.
The Areva Group is one of the world's leading French nuclear technology companies and generated sales of EUR 10.125 billion in 2005 with around 58,000 employees worldwide. The company is represented by various divisions in all areas of nuclear power generation, from uranium extraction to reactor development and reprocessing. The company was formed in 2001 through a merger of several companies in the nuclear industry. The Areva Group's objective is to expand its leading position on the world market in nuclear technology and to grow strongly in the field of renewable energies. Nuclear safety, health and environmental protection in terms of sustainable development and continuous improvement play an important role in this.
Woman Anne Lauvergeon studied at the Ecole des Mines and the Ecole Normale Supérieure and holds a degree in physics and engineering. She initially worked in the iron and steel industry before joining the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique research institute, where she carried out studies on the safety of the chemical industry. From 1985 to 1990, she worked at the Conseil général des Mines and became Vice-Chair in 1988. In 1990, she was appointed Secretary General for International Economics of the French Presidency and at the same time was responsible for preparing the French President for the G7 summits. In 1991, she became a partner at Lazard Frères & Cie in Paris and spent several months in the New York office. In 1997, she joined Alcatel Telecom, where she was appointed a member of the Management Board in 1998. Here she was responsible for international organization and the company's worldwide interests in the fields of energy and nuclear technology. In June 1999, she was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Areva NC Group, and in July 2001 she took over as Chairman of the Areva Group Executive Board.
