Has Germany missed out on the next megatrend?

Many people in Germany are asking themselves this burning question. Digitalization and artificial intelligence are permeating all areas of our society and presenting the German economy with unprecedented challenges. Are Germany and the EU losing ground to the USA? Companies are required to continuously adapt in order to remain globally competitive, while at the same time having to arm themselves against new risks in terms of data protection and cybersecurity.

The reality in Germany is sobering: Many companies are not yet fully exploiting the potential of digitalization and new technologies.

In a world where artificial intelligence is the new gold, the majority of German companies still seem to be empty-handed. A recent survey should serve as a wake-up call for the economy: More than half of companies have not yet included AI in their agenda. The slow increase in the use of AI from just 3% in 2018 to 15% in 2023 is not evidence of a technological sprint, but rather of a hesitant stroll into the digital future.

For 52% of all companies, AI is still not an issue.

Companies appear to be missing out on valuable optimization potential, as artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data offer great potential for increasing efficiency and opening up new markets. Experts estimate that automation and AI could lead to a productivity boost of 1.4% per year over the next 10 years.

The future is digital, and the Munich Management Colloquium (MMK) is the place where decision-makers come together to shape this future. This is where innovative solutions are presented, partnerships are forged and strategies for the digital revolution are developed. Only those who actively participate and take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization can take the lead in international competition and strengthen the economic region, today and tomorrow. Various leading companies will demonstrate how this can be achieved at the 31st MMK under the guiding theme: "Strong together - resilience through networking and collaboration".

Microsoft Germany GmbH is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to pushing the boundaries of what is possible through technology. They are promoting a future based on cloud computing, AI solutions and responsible technology. Of particular note is their initiative to promote AI ecosystems, which aims to augment human capabilities and transform industries while prioritizing ethical considerations and data privacy. The launch of Copilot opens a new chapter. Copilot is not just a tool, it is an enabler for a new way of working in which artificial intelligence goes hand in hand with human creativity and expertise.

Dassault Systèmes Germany GmbH offers the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, an instrument that drives the digital transformation of companies in a wide range of industries. The platform combines social and collaborative applications, enables detailed 3D modeling and advanced simulations, and provides intelligent analytics tools to understand and predict data. These technologies are designed to optimize efficiency and accelerate the innovation process, while strengthening the ability to develop sustainable solutions that benefit society and the environment.

Nemetschek SE is a pioneer in the field of digital transformation in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry. They offer solutions that usher in a new era of building design, construction and management. Their software enables improved collaboration, efficiency and precision, resulting in sustainable and high-quality buildings. Nemetschek is driving the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) to optimize the life cycle of buildings and improve environmental sustainability. A nice side effect of the software is that building projects can be finalized faster.

NVIDIA Middle East, Europe, and Africa is at the forefront of AI development and high-performance computing. Its technologies are transforming industries by enabling new developments in autonomous vehicles, robotics and natural language processing. NVIDIA's graphics cards form the backbone of the AI revolution. To date, the training of large language models has taken place exclusively on NVIDIA graphics cards.

O2 Telefonica has evolved far beyond the traditional telecommunications business and has become a driver of digital transformation. With a strategy based on connectivity, digital services and customer experience, they are enabling more comprehensive and efficient networking. In particular, their 5G initiatives promise to revolutionize the way data is transmitted and processed, enabling new applications in smart cities, IoT and industrial internet. In collaboration with Ericsson, they are setting a significant milestone with the implementation of the first Ericsson Cloud RAN solution in Europe, which enables breathtaking transmission speeds of over 4 Gbit/s.

In an era where digitalization and technological progress are not just aspirations but necessities, the focus is on dynamic action rather than passive reaction, innovation rather than convention and collaboration rather than isolation. The way forward will not be characterized by restrictions and excessive regulation, but by unleashing technological creativity and promoting economic incentives that drive digital transformation.
