biography
Mr. Paul Müller, Artistic Director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestraspoke on the topic "Between tradition and innovation: aspects of customer loyalty at the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra".
The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most internationally renowned top German orchestras and, with over 18,000 subscribers, is one of the most successful orchestras in Germany. The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1893 on the private initiative of Franz Kaim, the son of a piano manufacturer, and has shaped Munich's musical life ever since. In 1895, the Art Nouveau architect Martin Dülfer created a concert hall for the Kaim Philharmonic Orchestra, the "Kaim-Saal" in Munich's Türkenstraße, which was renamed the "Tonhalle" in October 1905. After the Tonhalle was destroyed by an Allied bombing raid in 1944, the orchestra gave concerts in the Herkulessaal from 1953 and has only had its own concert hall again since the opening of the Gasteig in 1985 with the Philharmonie im Gasteig.
Paul Müller has been artistic director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra since March 2008. After studying music at the Staatliche Musikakademie Detmold, studying cello with Marcio Carneiro and André Navarra and performing as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles, Müller took up a teaching position at the University of Paderborn. Between 1991 and 1993, he completed additional studies in the field of cultural management at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg. Müller later worked in various management positions at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Frankfurt an der Oder State Orchestra. In 1997, Müller became managing editor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg and joined the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra as artistic director in 2002.
