Frank-Peter Arndt, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Productionspoke in his presentation "The new normal - sustainable competitiveness in times of change" about ways and strategies in which innovations can be used to generate growth in Germany.
Frank-Peter Arndt has been a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG since September 1, 2006, with responsibility for Production. Born in Berlin, he studied industrial engineering at the Technical University there. He began his career at BMW AG in 1983 and held various management positions there before taking over as Head of the Foundry Division in 1997. Three years later, he was put in charge of the newly created Vehicle Components and Systems function, which combined the internal suppliers Foundry, Body Equipment and Laboratory as well as the Landshut site into one technology. The focus of his work was on innovation and economical lightweight construction. From 2004 until his appointment to the Board of Management, Arndt managed the BMW Group's largest production site in Dingolfing, where the BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series models and the aluminum bodies for Rolls-Royce are manufactured.
The BMW Group is the only automobile company in the world to pursue a pure premium multi-brand strategy. In addition to the sporty passenger cars of the BMW and MINI brands, the Group has a third strong brand in its portfolio, Rolls Royce. Like its passenger cars, the BMW brand's motorcycles also enjoy a high reputation. The BMW Group's objective is to achieve profitable growth and generate above-average returns by concentrating on the premium segments of the international automobile markets.
With 17 production plants worldwide and around 95,000 employees, BMW AG is one of the largest automobile companies. In 2010, the company achieved a turnover of 60.5 billion euros.
