Mr. Dr. Thomas Birtel, Chairman of the Executive Board of STRABAG SE, highlighted "The STRABAG teamconcept - a modular partnering model for complex construction projects" in a presentation.

 

STRABAG SE is one of Europe's leading construction groups. In the 2012 financial year, the company generated an output volume of EUR 14 billion with 74,000 employees. Starting from the core countries of Austria and Germany, the company operates through numerous subsidiaries in Eastern and South-Eastern European countries, in selected markets in Western Europe and occasionally on other continents. STRABAG generates 76 % of its output in markets in which the company holds one of the top three market positions, including Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Croatia. They offer services under several brands, including STRABAG and Züblin. These services encompass all areas of the construction industry and cover the entire construction value chain.

Dr. Thomas Birtel was born on June 3, 1954. In 1978, he graduated with a degree in economics from the Ruhr University in Bochum, where he also completed his doctorate in economics four years later. He began his professional career in 1983 at Klöckner & Co. He worked there until 1989, most recently as head of the accounting department at Klöckner Industrie-Anlagen GmbH. Between 1989 and 1996, he worked for the Swedish Frigoscandia Group as Managing Director for Central Europe. In 1996, he joined the STRABAG Group as a member of the Executive Board of STRABAG Hoch- und Ingenieurbau AG. In 2002, he was appointed to the Executive Board of STRABAG AG, Cologne, where he was responsible for building construction, finance and accounting, controlling, risk management and procurement. From 2006, Dr. Thomas Birtel was also a member of the Executive Board of the STRABAG SE Group; since June 2013, he has been Chairman of the Executive Board of STRABAG SE.
