Dr. Rudolf Staudigl

Dr. Rudolf Staudigl, Chairman of the Executive Board of Wacker Chemie AG spoke on the subject "Chemistry as an enabler of tomorrow's technology".

Wacker Chemie AG is a globally operating chemical group headquartered in Munich. The company was founded in 1914. The listed group has five divisions with 25 production sites in Europe, America and Asia and sells its products in over 100 countries. Siltronic AG, one of the five divisions, successfully went public in June 2015. This division manufactures silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry and is one of the world's largest wafer producers. The four other divisions consist of WACKER POLYSILICON, which produces high-purity polysilicon as a precursor for the semiconductor and solar industries. WACKER SILICONES is one of the world's largest manufacturers of silicone products and serves numerous markets, from the construction, cosmetics and automotive industries to the paper, electronics and medical-technology sectors. Based on ethene, WACKER POLYMERS produces vinyl acetate-based binders and polymer additives and supplies dispersible polymer powders, dispersions and resins primarily to the paints and coatings, construction and adhesives industries. The newest division, WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS, focuses on biotech products for growth sectors such as food additives, active pharmaceutical ingredients and agrochemicals.

Dr. Rudolf Staudigl was born in Neufahrn near Freising in 1954. He completed his degree in chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich in 1978. This was followed in 1981 by a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) and a research stay at Harvard University Cambridge/MA. In 1982 he was an academic advisor at the LMU's Institute of Inorganic Chemistry. In 1983 he began his business career at Wacker Siltronic AG in Burghausen. From 1989 to 1995, he held several top management positions at Wacker Siltronic in Germany and the USA. From 1995, he was a member of the Executive Board of Wacker-Chemie. Since May 2008, Dr. Staudigl has held the position of Chairman of the Executive Board.
