Daimler AG is a listed manufacturer of passenger cars and commercial vehicles and also a provider of financial services. Today's Daimler AG was founded in 1998 as DaimlerChrysler AG following the merger of Daimler-Benz AG with the US Chrysler Corporation. The company was renamed Daimler AG in 2007 following the sale of the majority stake in Chrysler. With its Mercedes-Benz Cars, Daimler Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Daimler Buses and Daimler Financial Services divisions, Daimler AG is one of the largest suppliers of premium passenger cars and the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world. Daimler Financial Services offers financing, leasing, fleet management, insurance, financial investments and credit cards as well as innovative mobility services. Daimler AG generated revenue of just under €130 billion in 2014 and employs around 280,000 people.

Dr. Manfred Bischoffborn in Calw on April 22, 1942, studied economics and was an assistant at the Alfred Weber Institute at the University of Heidelberg from 1968 to 1976, where he also completed his doctorate. Bischoff joined Daimler-Benz AG in 1976 and took over responsibility for investments, mergers and acquisitions in the finance department in 1981. After his subsequent function as CFO of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, Bischoff was appointed CFO of Deutsche Aerospace (later DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG) in 1989, and in 1995 was appointed Chairman of its Board of Management and thus also a member of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG. After the foundation of EADS in 2000, Bischoff assumed the function of Chairman of EADS until April 2007. In April 2007, Bischoff was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG. Bischoff is a member of the following supervisory boards and boards of directors: Daimler AG (Chairman), Airbus Group N.V., SMS Holding GmbH and UniCredit S.p.a.
