Dr. Hervé Touati

Dr. Hervé Touatiwho has been Managing Director since June 2008 with responsibility for carbon sourcing activities, new technologies and new markets of the E.ON Climate & Renewables GmbH talks about the Desertec Foundation and how this dream can become reality.

E.ON Climate & Renewables GmbH coordinates the global activities in the renewable energies and carbon sourcing segment for the E.ON Group from Düsseldorf. The aim is to sustainably expand the share of renewable energies in E.ON's portfolio in the long term in order to be able to play a leading role in the future. In order to permanently create environmentally friendly solutions, large sums are being invested in wind, biomass, bio natural gas, solar and ocean energy.

Dr. Hervé Touati, born in Paris, studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure. He completed his doctorate in electrical engineering in Berkeley, California. After several years in research and development in the computer industry, he joined the management consultancy McKinsey in 1995. There he worked primarily in the financial and energy sectors at European and American level. He focused on the areas of commodity trading and risk management.

Since June 2008, he has been Managing Director of E.ON Climate & Renewables GmbH, where he is responsible for carbon sourcing, new technologies and new markets.
