As Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post DHL Frank Appel responsible for the global management of the world's leading mail and logistics group. The Deutsche Post and DHL Group brands offer a unique portfolio of logistics (DHL) and communication services (Deutsche Post). In 2012, Deutsche Post DHL's revenue amounted to over 55 billion euros.

Frank Appel joined the company in 2000 as Head of Corporate Development and has been a member of the Executive Board since 2002. He has held various positions within the Management Board, including responsibility for Corporate Services, LOGISTICS, Global Mail and Global Business Services (including key account management for the Group's most important global customers). He successfully led the Group's STAR value enhancement and integration program, prepared the acquisition of Exel and introduced the Group's First Choice program. He took over as Chairman of the Executive Board in 2008.

In March 2009, Frank Appel presented his Strategy 2015. Following the aggressive expansion phase of recent years, the new focus is now on unlocking the company's potential for more organic growth. At its core, the Group Strategy 2015 envisages a two-tier structure with MAIL and DHL, as well as closer links between the individual DHL divisions to enable an even stronger focus on customer needs. The Group-wide guiding principle of "Respect and Results" helps to establish an open management culture that emphasizes performance and respectful interaction.

Before joining the Group, Frank Appel was a partner and member of the management board at McKinsey & Co. in Frankfurt am Main. He holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Munich and a doctorate in neurobiology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
