Dr. Christoph Beier

Dr. Christoph Beier, Deputy Spokesman of the Management Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Bonn/Eschborn spoke on the topic of "The business of sustainability - cost engineering as a challenge for a non-profit organization".

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its goals in international cooperation for sustainable development. The company is active in many fields of work, ranging from economic development and employment promotion to state and democracy building, the promotion of peace, security, reconstruction and civil conflict transformation, food security, health and basic education, and environmental, resource and climate protection.

Dr. Christoph Beier has been Deputy Chair of the Management Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH since January 2011. He has been a member of GIZ's management team since 2000: until 2003 as Head of Planning and Development, after which he was responsible for the Mediterranean region, Europe, Central Asia and, from 2007, Asia/Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean. As Deputy Chair of the Management Board and Chief Operation Officer (COO) of GIZ, Dr. Christoph Beier is responsible for GIZ's regional departments, including Germany, as well as the business units Migration, Global Partnerships/Emerging Economies, and Development-Oriented Emergency and Transitional Aid (ENÜH)/UNHCR. Christoph Beier has written numerous specialist articles and publications on development policy issues. As part of the Federal Chancellor's Dialogue on the Future of Germany 2011-2012, Christoph Beier was appointed as an expert on the topic of "Germany in the eyes of the world".
