biography

Astrid Fendt After graduating from the Allgäu-Gymnasium in Kempten, she completed a traineeship at the Allgäu newspaper from 1991 to 1995, followed by an apprenticeship as a stonemason with Michael Pfanner from 1995 to 1998. From 1998, she studied Classical Archaeology, Art History and Ancient History in Munich, Berlin and Leipzig, where she graduated with a Master's degree in 2002. From 2002 to 2006, she worked for the Pfanner Consortium on the restoration of the objects in the Pergamon Museum with. From 2006, she was a member of the Research Training Group 1049 "Archive, Power, Knowledge. Organizing, Controlling, Destroying Knowledge from Antiquity to the Present" at the University of Bielefeld and was awarded her doctorate there in 2009 with a dissertation on the history of the restoration of ancient statues in the Berlin Collection of Classical Antiquities with a doctorate. From 2009 to 2012, she worked for the Berlin Sculpture Network at the Berlin Collection of Classical Antiquities. In 2012 she received the Wülfing Fellowship from the German Archaeological Institute. From 2012 to 2022, she was a curator at the State Collections of Antiquities and the Glyptotheque in Munich. She has been Head of the Archaeology Department at the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart since 2023.

Her main research areas are antique sculpture, antique jewelry, antique reception and restoration.
