Detlef Dauke

Ministerial Director
Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

biography

Detlef Dauke, Ministerial Director and Head of the Technology Policy Division of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in Berlin, spoke about strategies and fields of action in global industrialization and the associated international opportunities for Germany from the perspective of the political framework in his presentation "Commitment to sustainable energy supply".

The central concern of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) is to lay the foundations for economic prosperity in Germany with broad participation by all citizens and for a modern system of economic relations. For the BMWi, this means the constant task of shaping and improving the conditions for economic activity on the basis of personal and entrepreneurial freedom, competition and stability. This task corresponds to the legislative, administrative and coordinating functions of the Ministry, e.g. in competition and European policy as well as in SME, energy and foreign trade policy.

Policies based on the principles of the social market economy have proven their worth, particularly in difficult phases of economic development. A forward-looking economic policy must secure long-term prospects for more employment in Germany.

Mr. Detlef Dauke, born in 1957, completed his second state examination in law after graduating from high school and completing his military service in 1987 and then joined the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Department of Constitution and Fundamental Rights. After working for several years as personal assistant to the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Hans Neuseler, he became head of the press department in 1993. After several senior positions, he became Head of the Office of the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology in November 2005 and took over as Head of the Technology Policy Division of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in June 2007. Since 2008, Mr. Dauke has headed the Energy Policy Department at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the ministry responsible for energy policy, whose aim is to achieve economic efficiency, security of supply and environmental compatibility.

In his contribution to the 18th Munich Management Colloquium, Mr. Detlef Dauke will discuss how a targeted combination of politics and business can create added value for Germany and sustainably increase the competitiveness of German companies in the context of global industrialization.
